Police Say Attack Does Not Appear Random

Investigators have not released many details about what happened, but detectives said they do not believe the violence was random. Authorities have not announced any arrests, and no suspect was reported to be in custody as of Sunday. (AP News)

Police have also not disclosed the ages or genders of the victims, their identities, their causes of death, or whether they were connected to one another. Officials have similarly declined to identify the animals found dead at the property.

Detective Shannon Wilde said investigators were still working to identify the victims and notify their families. She described the investigation as an unusually complicated crime scene requiring extensive coordination.

Large Crime Scene Creates Major Investigative Challenge

Washington County Sheriff Caprice Massey said the investigation is among the most complex scenes she has encountered during her 22-year career with the agency. Investigators are carefully processing the property while attempting to establish what happened and when. (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)

Officials also explained why information about the deaths was not released immediately after the discovery. Authorities said investigators were focused on identifying the victims, contacting next of kin and ensuring that information released to the public was accurate while the investigation remained active.

Authorities Ask Public for Information

Sheriff Massey urged anyone familiar with the property or the people who lived there to contact investigators with information that could help explain the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not publicly identified a motive or named any suspects.

For residents in the Portland region, the case is drawing significant attention because of the number of victims and the unusual circumstances surrounding their discovery. Investigators are expected to release additional information as victim identification and forensic examinations progress.
